We sure hope you have your pockets fortified because, by the looks of things, it’s going to take a massive hit. On that note, here’s our pick of the five best game releases expected this month:
1. Forza Motorsport 7 (October 3)
Developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios, Forza Motorsport 7 follows in the footsteps of a series that has the legacy for revolutionary graphics and accurate car designs. Forza Motorsport 7 is a visual treat for the racing franchise lover and the first-time player as well. The game boasts of over 700 playable cars, including new Forza Edition cars. Players will have access to 32 initial destinations to drive at, including a fictional street circuit in Dubai and other returning ones. The game will be available for PC and Xbox One.
2. Middle-earth: Shadow of War (October 10)
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is the second installment in the game series inspired by the books of J. R. R. Tolkien, like the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit. The first one, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, created quite a stir with the immersive gameplay and an expansive campaign. This new edition will reportedly go down the same way but with graphics and gameplay that is a notch higher. The protagonist of the second game remains the ranger Talion, who is possessed by the spirit of the elf lord Celebrimbor. The game also continues the Nemesis System that was introduced in Shadow of Mordor. It will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
3. Destiny 2 (October 24)
Destiny 2 from Bungie and published by Activision has already garnered quite a few eyeballs. The online-only multiplayer first-person shooter game is set in a mythical hyper-realistic world also shared by other players. The players have to assume the roles of guardians of the last city on Earth and will set out to take back the Light and save the city from Ghaul and his Red Legion. The game is going to offer player-vs-player as well as player-vs-environment elements in a good mix. The game has been launched for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 last month and will be coming to PCs next.
4. Assassin’s Creed: Origins (October 27)
Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed title could potentially be the most awaited game this year and the hype around it is just crazy. This time, everything takes place in ancient Egypt, which is the first time that the studio has picked a place and time of which there are no records. Technically, the studio designed the game world from their imagination this time. With the new edition, Assassin’s Creed takes us back to its origin. The protagonist is a Medjay named Bayek who is also the first assassin and the founder of the creed. Gameplay videos show that there are multiple new elements that add a fresh breath to the series. The game will be launching on PCs, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
5. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (October 27)
Developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks, this is the second installment of the revised Wolfenstein series and the eighth installment in the entire franchise. The events follow directly from the last game as the players take control of protagonist William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, in the Nazi-occupied United States. You read that right, Nazis in the US! Blazkowicz has to battle his way through to defeat his nemesis, General Wilhelm “Deathshead” Strasse. The game will be available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
